Double entry doors after wood staining by iPaint USA

Wood Staining in South Florida

Doors, decks, fences, soffits and trim, stained to bring the wood back instead of hiding it. Pick solid, semi-transparent or clear, and iPaint USA handles prep and finish across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade.

Three Ways to Stain Wood: Solid, Semi-Transparent or Clear

The right finish depends on how much of the original wood you want to see. Marcelo walks you through samples at the estimate; here is the short version:

Solid Stain

Full color coverage that soaks into the wood instead of sitting on top like paint. The pick for color changes and older boards with mixed tones.

Semi-Transparent Stain

A tint that shifts the tone while the grain stays visible. The classic choice for adding a warm, reddish or honey cast to pine and cedar.

Clear Finish

No color change at all: a protective sheen that locks in the natural look of cedar or pine against sun and moisture.

Before and After: Door Staining That Changes the Whole Entry

Front doors take the worst of the Florida sun and show it first. Sanded, stained and finished, they set the tone for the whole facade.

Decks, Fences, Soffits and Exterior Wood

Exterior wood gets the same prep sequence written into our exterior contracts: pressure cleaned at up to 3,000 PSI, scraped where an old finish failed, and dried before any stain goes down. Wet or dirty wood rejects the finish; prepped wood holds it.

  • Decks and pool-area wood
  • Fences and gates
  • Soffits, fascia and exterior trim
  • Entry and garage doors

Indoors, doors, trim and wall moulding can be stained instead of painted as part of interior painting.

How Long a Stain Finish Lasts in Florida Sun

Sun and rain hit horizontal boards hardest, so decks wear faster than fences and doors. Prep and product set the pace: cleaned, dry wood holds stain; trapped moisture pushes it out. Marcelo tells you honestly what your wood needs at the estimate, whether that is a full solid coat or just a clear refresh.

Wood Staining Questions

Should I stain or paint my wood?
Stain soaks in and shows the material; paint covers it with a film. Solid stain sits in the middle: full color, no plastic-looking layer. Marcelo recommends based on the wood's condition, not on what sells the bigger job. For painted fences and trim, see exterior painting.
What is the difference between solid, semi-transparent and clear?
Solid changes the color completely while keeping the wood texture. Semi-transparent tints the tone and leaves the grain visible. Clear adds protection and sheen without changing the color of cedar or pine at all.
Do you sand and prep before staining?
Always, and what the wood gets depends on its history. Boards that were finished before get scraped where the old coat failed; bare wood skips the scraping and goes to cleaning and sanding. Either way the surface is washed and left to dry, because stain only performs on clean, dry wood.
Can you restain my front door without replacing it?
In most cases, yes: the door gets sanded, stained and finished on site, like the before-and-after pairs on this page. If the wood is too far gone, Marcelo says so at the estimate instead of selling a finish that will not hold.
How do payments work for staining jobs?
Payment terms are agreed in the written quote before work starts, and there is more than one way to pay. Marcelo goes over the options with you at the estimate.
